So I am doing a closing today and the broker, the buyer and his son are chattering away in Spanish. Most of it was explaining the documents to the father who was buying the house. I caught about 1 word in 5 or so. My vocabulary, particularly where Home Closings are concerned is good enough to comprehend but not to speak.
At the end of the closing, the dad looked at me expectantly as if to say "Is that it?"
I smiled at him and exclaimed "Feliz cumpleaƱos!"
After a brief moment of staring at me, they laughed and I explained, "I don't know how to say 'Congratulations' in Spanish so I used the next best thing."
And I gave a silent prayer of thanks to Dora the Explorer.
