Follow your Bliss
Oct. 7th, 2009 10:13 amSo I tweeted (And Facebooked Statused) the other day: Reclaiming my bliss is priority one.
I've been anxious and stressy lately and I need to get on top of that. Often I will spiral and once I start down that path, for too long will it dominate my destiny.
Tim Klein, a very good friend of mine asked on Facebook: Did someone take it from you?
This is a very profound question. I could blame my lack of bliss on the Economy, or various people at work, or different irritants going on in my life. Ultimately though, my bliss is my own. I am the one who decides if I am happy with the way things are or not.
Its a very eastern concept. The Taoist can be living in filth under a highway and eating scraps he finds in dumpsters and yet still be happier than a Fortune 500 CEO. Its all a matter of finding contentment in your place and attitude.
Its very hard for the western mindset to be content. We are constantly measuring ourselves against each other, or even our own perceptions of where we should be. On the plus side, its what makes the West leaders in innovation. On the downside it tends to make us depressed and anxious most of the time.
So while its easy to blame external circumstances for ones happiness. The important thing to remember, is YOU control whether you are happy or not. It may be easier or harder to be happy under certain circumstances, but when the rubber hits the road, if you can do it, decide to be happy.
